Lug width is the distance between the two lugs on your watch case — the points where the strap attaches. It's measured in millimetres and is almost always listed in your watch's official specifications. Common sizes are 18mm, 20mm, and 22mm, though anything from 16mm to 24mm exists. If you can't find the spec sheet, search your watch model name and "lug width" — this almost always returns the answer. Our Watch Strap Sizing Guide covers this in full.
Most of our straps come in a standard length of 120/75 — 120mm on the tail side and 75mm on the buckle side — which fits most wrists. If your wrist is above 190mm or below 150mm, contact us before ordering and we'll advise. Our Watch Strap Sizing Guide includes a full wrist size chart.

A standard watch strap has two separate pieces — a long end and a short end — joined at the spring bar. A single pass strap is one continuous piece of leather that threads through the spring bars and sits flat across the back of the watch, with no seam underneath. It sits lower on the wrist, eliminates the bulk of two overlapping ends, and gives a cleaner profile. It's a preferred choice for dress watches or anyone who finds traditional straps sit too high.
A bund pad is a leather backing piece that sits between the watch case and your wrist. Originally developed for pilots to insulate metal cases from skin in extreme temperatures, they've since become a style choice. You don't need one — but if you like the look of a strap that extends fully behind the case, or if you find the case back uncomfortable against your skin, a bund pad is worth considering. Note that a bund pad adds thickness between the case and wrist, which typically means wearing the strap approximately one hole shorter — we recommend ordering one size larger than usual for a comfortable fit.

Vegetable-tanned leather is made using natural tannins extracted from tree bark and plant matter — a process that takes weeks rather than the hours required by modern chrome tanning. The result is a leather that is dense, firm, and chemically stable. It develops character with use rather than deteriorating. Almost all mass-produced leather goods use chrome tanning. We don't.
Full grain is the outermost layer of the hide — the strongest, most intact part. It hasn't been sanded or buffed to remove imperfections, which means the natural grain pattern is preserved entirely. Over time it develops a patina that lower grades of leather simply can't replicate. Split leather, genuine leather, and bonded leather are all made from what's left after the full grain layer is removed.
From a tannery in Tuscany affiliated with the Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale — the consortium that certifies, safeguards, and preserves the integrity of authentic Italian vegetable-tanned leather. Tuscany has centuries of tradition in this craft. We source exclusively from there because the quality and consistency are simply not replicable elsewhere.
Yes — and that's the point. Full grain vegetable-tanned leather absorbs the oils from your skin, exposure to light, and the daily friction of wear. Over months and years, it deepens in tone and develops a surface sheen unique to how and where you've worn it. No two pieces age identically. A chrome-tanned or synthetic strap will fade and crack. This one gets better.
It's a considered one. The hides we use are by-products of food manufacturing — no animals are raised or slaughtered solely for leather. Vegetable tanning uses natural tannins rather than synthetic chemicals, and the finished leather is biodegradable. The Consorzio-affiliated tanneries we source from invest in waste recycling and water purification. We don't use the word sustainable lightly — but this is as close as leather gets.
Every piece starts as a full hide, selected for grain consistency and surface quality. We cut each strap, wallet, or card holder by hand — no die cutting, no automated punching. Edges are bevelled, burnished, and finished by hand. Stitching is done with Japanese waxed linen thread, saddle-stitched by hand using two needles. The process is slow by design. That's what makes it last.
Machine stitching uses a single thread looped through itself — if it breaks at any point, the whole seam can unravel. Saddle stitching uses two threads passed through each hole in opposite directions. If one breaks, the other holds. It's the same reason saddlers have used this method for centuries. The aesthetic is also different — tighter, more considered, and visibly made by hand.
Each piece is made to order, not pulled from shelf stock. Allow 5–8 business days in the workshop before dispatch. If you need a piece by a specific date, contact us before ordering and we'll let you know if it's achievable.
We occasionally take on custom work — specific dimensions, leather colours, or hardware finishes outside our standard range. Contact us with the details of what you're looking for and we'll let you know what's possible.
Remove surface dirt with a dry or very lightly dampened cloth. For more persistent marks, a small amount of saddle soap applied with a soft cloth works well — work it in gently and wipe off the excess. Avoid soaking the leather or using household cleaning products. Follow with a leather conditioner to replenish the oils.
As a general guide, once every 6–12 months is sufficient for a strap worn regularly. The natural oils from your skin will condition the leather gradually over time. If the leather starts to look dry or feels stiff, it's ready for conditioning. A thin, even coat of neatsfoot oil or a quality leather conditioner cream is all it needs.
Dab it dry with a cloth and let it air dry naturally away from direct heat. Never use a hairdryer or leave it in direct sunlight to dry — heat causes the leather to dry out and crack. Once fully dry, apply a leather conditioner and leave it overnight before wearing. The strap will be fine. Vegetable-tanned leather is more water-resistant than it looks.
Minor surface scratches on vegetable-tanned leather can often be buffed out. Apply a small amount of leather conditioner over the scratch, then buff gently with a soft canvas cloth using circular motions. The leather will darken slightly in the treated area — this evens out over time as the rest of the strap develops its patina.
